Google launches new World Cup attribute for venues showing games

With the World Cup having already kicked off, Google is asking certain businesses—particularly bars and restaurants—if they will be showing World Cup games at their location. If listing owners add the “Showing the World Cup” attribute to their Google Business Profile (GBP), Google will display it prominently in both Google Maps and Google Search.

Google actually announced this temporary new attribute earlier this week:

Want to watch the game with other fans? A new label for businesses on Search will launch ahead of the games and help you do just that. Soon you can simply search for “Where to watch the world cup near me” within Search to find a nearby venue of your choice. Business owners should review their local rules about showing sporting events to the public before applying the new label.

For businesses small or large, if you’re showing the World Cup, you should take a moment to add this attribute to your listing(s). Here’s what the label looks like on a local listing:
